24 OCTOBER 2008 - WHOOPER SWANS

CALVERT BBOWT; Only 62 Northern Pochards present today and no sign of the Ferruginous Duck; 51 Pochards less than yesterday.

GRENDON UNDERWOOD; Only c60 Linnet seen today/c250 Lapwing

WOTTON HOUSE (STRICTLY PRIVATE, no access)
Two adult WHOOPER SWANS seen drinking, calling, preening, feeding then roosting on water. Rust stains to head, neck and breast and were part of a nationwide movement of Whooper Swans today. Unfortunately, the location is strictly private with no access and it is extremely likely that the birds will disappear from here overnight (see Tim's photographs above)

BERRYFIELDS, AYLESBURY; Owl watch over this vast area of roughgrass fields 1700-1815 hours. One Owl glimpsed low over grass whilst driving home. It was either a Barn Owl in silhouette or it was actually brown! Stopped to look but couldn't see it. Also female COMMON STONECHAT and 6 Meadow Pipits
